I must not get into a place where I depend on any specific person for my belief in Christ, for if that person is removed from my life, then my faith will fall to pieces. Jesus must be my Lord whether or not C.S. Lewis or Chesterton or Spurgeon ever lived. My salvation has to be solely my own, between myself and my Lord, and no other person is allowed any part in that thing. Jesus is the only One who has the right to be the object of the faith and dependency that come with a saving relationship.
