We must not personalize our sins. If this happens, only destruction follows: we become comfortable with our filthy sin, rationalization naturally follows, we lose our ability to discern that sinfulness, and we can even begin to see that sin--that habit or act that is the very antithesis of God, in whom there is not one drop of evil--as good and embrace it. That is the ultimate distortion, and all of this is why accountability is so important, as others are outside of this personalization and can see your planks clearly. This is why everyone should be accessible on a level of love, and why we should not assume pastors, theologians, or popes are above reproach. All are on a level playing field, and we're all on the same team so there is nothing to fear...only a stronger relationship with our Lord. Bring it quicker, God!
