Is laughter really a gift from God? I think so, but like any other good thing from Him, we've twisted and distorted it into something disgusting. Often laughter is used in response to filthy jokes, for tearing down others, and for covering up insecurities (my flesh can revel in these things because they are sinfully comfortable, but my Spirit breaks). Humor has become an at-the-expense-of-another-person endeavor. Why can't it just be playful absurdity?

Do we know what real laughter is anymore? It's not hard to imagine laughter in the garden of Eden. We see it in the laughter of a child, where it's an outward expression of being overjoyed in some circumstance. Let's laugh in enjoyment of God and His creation; not forced ("because we 'have to'"), but out of overflowing enjoyment of Him. Let's make innocent, pure laughter our anthem!
